Celebrating Dr. Fansen Meng: Finalist Award at the 38th SCBA-TX Symposium
Dr. Fansen Mang, Research Scientist, McGill Gene Editing Laboratory (GEL) at the Texas Heart Institute.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Fansen Meng, a Research Scientist in our GEL group at THI, was honored with the Finalist Award at the 38th Annual Symposium of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America, Texas Chapter (SBCA-TX) on May 3, 2025, at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). At the symposium, Dr. Meng presented his exciting and innovative gene therapy work, which offers a transient, tunable approach to YAP activation in cardiomyocytes. This breakthrough work has the therapeutic and prophylactic potential to treat myocardial infarction-induced cardiac injury, representing a significant advance in cardiovascular medicine.
Dr. Xiao Li, a THI faculty member and assistant director of the GEL, was on hand that day to deliver his talk, “Decoding a Transplanted Heart - One Cell at a Time“. Several groups within the Texas Medical Center are conducting this multidisciplinary endeavor, including cardiologists from Texas Children's Hospital, computational experts at THI, and biologists at BCM.

Dr Meng has made many outstanding research contributions during his time in our lab and is poised to be a leader in the cardiac and regenerative medicine fields. Please join us in congratulating Fansen on this well-deserved achievement and recognizing his dedication and excellence, which has been inspirational to our lab and the broader heart community.
